Working closely with our

partner schools

Hundreds of state primary schools across the country have already joined the Schoolreaders scheme.  If you are a school that would benefit from free volunteers to listen to children read on a one-to-one basis, please read on.

WHAT IS THE SCHOOLREADERS SCHEME?

We recruit and provide volunteers to listen to children read on a one-to-one basis in primary schools. This

is a free service.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF JOINING THE SCHEME?

Schoolreaders will actively recruit volunteers to meet your school's particular requirements.  These volunteers will be screened and matched to your school.  The scheme has proven very successful with 1 in 7 primary schools registering with us, requesting our volunteers.

HOW DO WE BECOME A PARTNER SCHOOL?

Schools wishing to participate should fill out our Schools Registration Form (click on the link below).

All schools have to agree to our Code of Conduct and agree to provide any necessary guidance and training to our volunteers.

ENHANCED DBS CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS

As a Schoolreaders partner school you agree to carry out an Enhanced DBS check for each Schoolreaders volunteer prior to their start in the school and agree to

confirm this has taken place by email to admin@schoolreaders.org.  If the volunteer is registered with the DBS update service you agree to check their status and inform us accordingly.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Once a volunteer has been matched to your school, you will be sent the applicant's profile for your consideration. On acceptance of the volunteer, you will be given the individual's contact details. You will then be required to make the contact and arrange the initial visit to the school.  We will send you a helpsheet indicating areas you may want to cover in this first meeting.

KEEPING IN TOUCH

Schoolreaders aims to recruit as many volunteers as are required by each school and will maintain contact with the school periodically to ensure that the scheme is running smoothly.   We ask that schools are prompt in their communications with our Schoolreaders volunteers.

"The Dr Seuss saying 'The more that you read, the more things you will know' is very true. Reading is essential; it's the key to everything in life. If you can read, you can do anything."
